Obedience

Obedience should be fun but also challenging for your dog, they love challenges and learning.  Every dog is bred to do a specific job – if we cannot give them that satisfaction, then we must stimulate their minds by giving them another “job” to do. Obedience training provides the mental stimulation that may be lacking in your dog’s daily routine. But just as important – obedience should NOT change your dog’s personality – if anything, it should help show it off. Obedience is the single most important ingredient for your dog to live a happy life. It provides a an effective way for you to communicate specific commands with your dogs such as coming when called or sitting and staying until released. All of our obedience programs are designed to achieve full off leash reliability, so we have to make sure he understands these commands are required no matter what the situation is (distractions present or not). Once your pup understands this, its freedom will be maximized. Just imagine all the big open spaces throughout Nashville – Centennial Park, Shelby Bottoms, Harpeth River, or all of the many Greenways! There are a countless number of parks and areas of recreation that your dog can experience with you. The KEY with any obedience program is that your dog will do the commands around big distractions like strangers and other dogs, or else they will be of little use to you. If you can trust your dog to “Come” every time you say come – then he will get to go more places, be off leash more, and run and play like dogs are designed to do! Dogs were not created to be confined 24/7.  Dogs love freedom and being able to explore, and the only way your dog will be allowed this freedom is if they are reliable off leash. Obedience is great for abused or nervous dogs too – the confidence that it will provide them will be PRICELESS. Obedience will provide your dog with tons of mental stimulation, socialization, bonding experience, and unlimited learning opportunities.

The Nashville Dog Wizard will teach our obedience programs at your place or ours.

Training at Your Place

We can come to your house for each lesson. We do like to have a couple lessons toward the end which will be held in distracting locations – like a local park or area shopping center. All of our obedience programs include group lessons once you have completed you’re in home program. Each obedience program includes unlimited lessons until we reach our goals.

Training at Our Place

Our training program at our place is more like a 2-week summer camp. Your dog will learn so much during its stay with us, but more importantly will have fun doing so! Located in East Nashville, about 10 minutes from downtown. Your dog will stay with us for 14 days and will accomplish any goal on your list. Then we will bring him home and teach you how to address this new obedience with him. Don’t worry about missing the “bonding” experience of the teaching process – you will get plenty of bonding time when you practice in every new place you take your dog. It works just as well as doing it in your home, only it is faster and you get to start using the techniques right away. You get unlimited follow up lessons until you achieve the same level of control we will gain. Obviously, your dog’s issues will determine a lot of how we do the 14 days, but majority of the dogs during the 14 day training program will get to do the following: learn all the obedience commands (off leash reliable), go out to parks, shopping centers, and get to a TON of playtime and socialization with other dogs.
